Woodcreek Nature Center

A field trip opportunity became available to visit the Woodcreek Nature Center in Roseville.  This is a great program that is lead by the Woodcreek High School students.  They apply for the class and spend the first half of the year studying about the area, then in March they start tours that include a quick program and an awesome walk through the vernal pools.  The presentations are all standard based and geared toward grades 1-5.  Bonus, it's all free!  Pass this along to your kids' teachers because it's a wonderful program.

The boys were put into different groups based on their grade.  I started with Cody and then moved over and stayed with Tyler.  Tyler's leader was amazing!  She really knew her stuff and made a point to stop and show the kids different plants, trails, scat and critters.  Tyler loved it!

They have quite a few animals to show and care for as part of the program.

Lots of wild life to see
 Lizards...
 Baby snake...

 Blue bellied lizards...
 Many flowers were in bloom...

I can't remember the name of this plant, but it splits into pieces and the seed burrows itself into the ground by coiling.  We all had one placed on our jackets and it was amazing to watch it go from straight to a tight coil.

The nature preserve is located directly behind the Roseville Aquatic Center.  We are looking forward to going back for another hike.
