Winter Gymnastics

At the first of the year, Tyler moved up to Level 3 at gymnastics.  This has been a fun move for him, getting to work on slightly harder things, learn a few new things and working on his strength.
Here's a handful of picture from the 500 I have stored so far from the year.

The level 3 classes are very full, so he's been bumped back to a once per week schedule.  This has turned into a bit of a good thing though as we've been able to schedule a few private lessons with the head boys coach.  It's amazing what an hour of one on one coaching can do.

Indoor Soccer

Cody is a soccer kid.  Before the fall season ended we were talking about what was next and instead of playing basketball he wanted to try indoor soccer.  It took a bit of time, but we happened upon a team thanks to some friends.  It was a bit of a rough season as they were a recreation team playing against competition teams, but it was a learning experience.

Most of the kids on the team play baseball, so they didn't continue on to the next session.  Next up for Cody will be an 8 week clinic soccer camp on Sundays starting in April.  Hopefully he'll be able to learn some strategies, footwork and confidence building skills to aid him in the fall.  We're switching clubs in the fall as his coach is moving up to comp and I'm not wanting to have to ref this season.  With a recommendation for a new coach in hand, fingers are crossed that he can have a good season and continue his love for the game.

Winter Swim Clinic

The boys ended their swim season at the beginning of August.  We hit a few more open swims at the pool and then left the water for the fall.  In hopes of continuing their swimming success from last season, as well as giving them a boost for the upcoming season as they will both be on the bottom of their age groups, we signed up for a 6 week clinic.
The clinic was about 25 minutes away in El Dorado Hills, but it was worth the drive all 12 times we made the trip.  The coaching was excellent and both boys really learned a lot.

Tyler's clinic started a little rough and it took him a week to get back into the swing of things.  By the end of the clinic he had finally stopped rolling onto his back for 5+ seconds to breath, using a good side breathing technique instead.  The real improvement came with his stroke, high elbows on both arms.  They also worked on backstroke and using legs as the largest muscle to move you.

Cody was like a fish the whole clinic.  The main coach was really impressed with his skills and gave him the opportunity to swim up with the older group some of the days.  His big improvement was working on flip turns, including a backstroke turn and an intro to I.M. transitions.
It will be exciting to see what he can do this season!

The boys are scheduled for 4 semi-private lessons at another pool to hopefully work on breast and butterfly strokes.  Then the swim clinic through their swim team starts mid April.
Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming....

Check it out...

I finished my 365 project and worked on some crafty for Christmas.  Go Here.

Coming Home.....

We had another long day coming home from Boise, shaving maybe 30 minutes from our first travel time.  We had snow off and on the first half, then it cleared up around Winnamucca.  We thought we were good, but hit the mountain traffic that added a lot of time as well.
