The boys ended their swim season at the beginning of August. We hit a few more open swims at the pool and then left the water for the fall. In hopes of continuing their swimming success from last season, as well as giving them a boost for the upcoming season as they will both be on the bottom of their age groups, we signed up for a 6 week clinic.
The clinic was about 25 minutes away in El Dorado Hills, but it was worth the drive all 12 times we made the trip. The coaching was excellent and both boys really learned a lot.
Tyler's clinic started a little rough and it took him a week to get back into the swing of things. By the end of the clinic he had finally stopped rolling onto his back for 5+ seconds to breath, using a good side breathing technique instead. The real improvement came with his stroke, high elbows on both arms. They also worked on backstroke and using legs as the largest muscle to move you.
Cody was like a fish the whole clinic. The main coach was really impressed with his skills and gave him the opportunity to swim up with the older group some of the days. His big improvement was working on flip turns, including a backstroke turn and an intro to I.M. transitions.
It will be exciting to see what he can do this season!
The boys are scheduled for 4 semi-private lessons at another pool to hopefully work on breast and butterfly strokes. Then the swim clinic through their swim team starts mid April.
Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming....
