2015 High Tech Invitational

This past weekend was our home meet at Technique, the High Tech Invitational.   It made for a long weekend, but everything went really well.  Jumping in head first, I was on the hospitality team feeding all the judges and coaches for the weekend.  Ty's session was first thing Saturday morning and luckily Cody didn't have football so he could video for me as I was running back and forth.

Ty's meet went well in spots and not the best in others.  He finally moved his all around score up to a 49.80, personal best for the season.  He's still 4.2 point off from qualifying for the state meet, so we'll see what we can do to help him get there.  In the end, he's going to have to figure out how to hit all his routines on the same day.

He started his day on rings and he had a good routine, hitting a bonus and attempting another that was rewarded.  He ended the routine by putting his hands down, hopefully they can work on that.
8.70 for a PB by .9

Vault has become a frustration as he finally broke away from the 8.8 score, but went down to an 8.6.

P-Bars looked okay and he had a PB with 7.90 (up .5).  They have lowered the bars down a bit for him in hopes that he can stick the landing, but it's making for ugly swings under the bar.  Hopefully they can work on raising the bars a bit to help improve his form while sticking the landing.

High bar took a dive this week with a 7.10, almost 2 points down from last meet.  Looking back at the video his swings were not good, so even though he's hitting the skills, the little things are killing him.

Floor was a bit more on track this week with an 8.30 score, up from last meet.  His form on a lot of elements have improved and he did a really good routine.

They ended on pommel where he pulled out an 9.20, PB by .7.  He had a bit of a slip on the pommel, but rolled through it a lot better than normal and was rewarded for good work.

Here is his video:

We are on the downhill stretch now with 2 more meets to go.  If he can pull out a 54.00 at one of these meets he will earn a spot to go to state, adding one last meet to the season.  He's got a ways to climb, so we'll see if it can all come together for him.
2 weeks and we head to Oakland for the Gold Country Classic.

Eagles vs the Crushers

Cody had a good game yesterday with the Eagles, finishing out with their first win of the season!
It was a good game for the boys who have spent the last few games getting beat up a bit.

Cody again had a good game, with some good flag pulls and blocks.

He is about half way through the season, hoping this game helps them put an upswing on their season.  He's still having a good time and the coaches are doing their best to bring the boys together on game day.

2015 Mas Watanabe Invitational

This week's meet took us to Elevate Gymnastics Academy in Elk Grove.  We were the first session of the day, so it was nice that it was only a 45 min drive.  Ty had a decent meet, improving on a 3 scores from last week, same on one and down on two.  He was hoping to improve his all around score, but it was also exactly the same as last meet.
We were happy for two of his team mates that qualified for State, but worried that the top three had a bit of a slump weekend.

Ty was happy to have an audience today, with Virginia, Eli, Aiden and Annabel stopping by for a couple of rotations.

Pre-meet hang out....
Waiting to go out for warm-ups

Can you spot Ty and his gym twin Charlie?

They started out on rings today.  This went better, with an improvement of .10 from last week.
Hoping he can add back in one of the bonuses this week before his next meet.

Vault was next, but it was SO far in the back of the gym I didn't get any pictures (barely able to get a video either!)  He's stuck at an 8.8, for the last three meets.  Hopefully he clean up his landing to improve his score as the first part is looking pretty good.

P-Bars followed and went better than last week.  Timing and landings will be the focus of this week.

High bar is becoming his top event, with an improvement of .40.  Little adjustments will hopefully push him into the 9.0+ scores.

Floor took a bit of a stumble back this week.  He looked OK in warm-ups, but continued to rush through his routine and wasn't paying attention to where he was on the floor, stepping out of bounds.  He can do it so much better than what he is doing on meet days, so hopefully we can help him calm his nerves to not go into auto pilot.

He ended his day with a good pommel routine.  The score didn't improve from last meet, but it looked better!

Ty walked away with two new medals, the first for pommel...

The second for High bar...

This was week 2 of our 3 week run.  Next week will be busy as we are at home!
Lots of things to do before and during the meet to help make sure it all goes well.  I'm helping on the hospitality team, our job is to make sure the judges and coaches are fed for the weekend.

If your local, Ty would love an audience!  Saturday 2/7, from 9-noon.  $10 for adults, $5 for kids.

Oroville 2015

This weeks meet took us up north to Oroville for the weekend.
Ty had a good meet and improved even more from the last showing.
We also had the opportunity to stay for the next session and watch the level 6-10 team compete.  We had company from some of his other level 5 team mates which made it really fun for everyone.

He started on Vault, which was good to get the nerves out.
He had the same high score as last meet at 8.8.

Parallel Bars was the low for the day at 7.00, but still kept his scores all out of the sixes!

High bar went well and he made it onto the podium in 8th place with an 8.50 (Personal best by .70)

Floor didn't get recorded, but he did very good.  He has made a lot of improvements over the last couple of weeks and it showed with an 8.50 score. (Personal Best by 1.20)

Pommel went well with an 8.50, personal best by .30.

Rings was the last event of the day with 7.70, personal best by .50.
