2013 Family Trip to the Redwoods

This summer's Scollay Family trip took us to the North Coast Redwoods.
Like last year, we stayed at a KOA with Kozy Kabins in Eureka.
On the drive over.....
The Kabins were a bit smaller this year, with only one room, but they worked out great.

The boys played many rounds of mini golf as it was free at this camp.

Low traffic and lots of space to play ball!

A few nights during the week they do a hay ride.

We had many campfires and enjoyed mega marshmallows!

 Camp bonfire...
 Big open spaced moon.....

  Banana Bikes!

We had a belated Birthday celebration for Rich....
 Wall hanging Judy made
 Mr A enjoying his dinner
 Morning story time.....
 Dish Duty
 Roasting their dinner...
 Pool time
Thanks Eureka KOA!

6/15 at Placerville

This weekend we headed up the hill to Union Mine High School to swim against the
Dry Diggin' Dolphins from Placerville.

Cody had a good day at the pool overall.  He had a couple of flubs though.  The judge said he "scissor kicked" on his breaststroke during his I.M, causing him to DQ.
He had finished in 3rd overall.
His medley relay team did well, finishing in 2nd overall.
Then he had a long, 3 event break.  With a little lack of focus, he had a false start on his 50 freestyle, literally falling off the block.  He picked himself up out of the pool, got back on the block and swam a great race after.  (Finishing 2nd overall).
Next up he had his butterfly, a few tens slower than last week, still finishing 1st overall!
Then his freestyle relay team finished 2nd.
Can't wait to see his ribbons on Monday!

Cody's video for the day.....

Tyler had an awesome day in the pool.
His medley relay team DQ'd, but he had the opportunity to swim breast stroke and did great.
In backstroke, he had an awesome start and finished 4th overall, but 1st in his heat.
Next he swam breaststroke for the first time, he finished with out a DQ and did well in his heat (Notice his cheerleader at the end of the lane in the video).
The 50 freestyle was on his program again, placing 1st or 2nd in his heat and 8th overall.
Last was the freestyle relay with his team finishing in 3rd.

It will be interesting to see where he swims in the next meet because he's on the bubble between the fastest heat and the next one up.  It's awesome that he's doing so well, but his heat ribbons will probably change if he's moved to that fastest heat for the day.

6/8 Auburn Meet

The Auburn Robles drove down the hill to Orangevale for our first official meet.

It was a crazy hot day, jumping up well past the 100 mark.  It was so hot that the parents were allowed to take a quick dip in the pool at the half way point.

Both boys swam really well, very proud of them.

Tyler had a busy day with his first time as a 7/8, swimming in 5 events.
He swam the ankor in the medley relay (freestyle).  Unfortunately his team did DQ during the butterfly.

Getting ready for his 50 free with Coach Brooke.
  Starting the freestyle relay

Here's his individual events.
25 freestyle, backstroke and 50 freestyle.
He's hoping to swim either breast or butterfly next week. Now that we have morning practice, he'll get to be there all week so the coaches can see him work.

Cody had the same busy schedule for the day with 5 events .
Both his relay teams did well, it's going to be a fun season.
The one crappy picture I took of him.

Cody's individual day had him swimming the I.M, breast and butterfly.
He had personal records in the I.M. (shaving 8+ seconds) and butterfly (shaving 4 seconds).  Have competition in the next lanes really motivates him.  Now if we can get him to keep his eyes on his own finish line, he'll be even faster!
I also need to find a better place to video him as there were too many people in the way, producing some crappy videos.

Next week we head up the hill to Placerville.
Go Tiger Sharks!

6/1 Time Trials

The first swim meet with the team finally arrived in the way of time trials.
It was fun to see where the boys fell time wise and they were excited to hang out with their swim buddies for the day.

The actual swim day was long and full of problems behind the scenes.  Luckily we didn't have another team there to deal with on top of all the issues.

Onward and upward to next week!

Tyler did well for his first meet of the season.

Cody also did well.  His backstroke time was slightly better from a couple of weeks ago, everything else was close as well.

The meet was cut short because the pool was scheduled to open and they had a party scheduled as well.  This meant that the boys didn't get to swim individual breast or butterfly.
Fingers crossed for next week!

Last Day of School

Whoo Hooo!  We survived another year!

We really enjoyed our switch to the new charter and are looking forward to next year knowing what we are in for.

Tyler, the new 2nd grader....
 Cody, the new 4th grader.....

We plan to continue with our math program, revisit our writing book and keep sharp with Bridge books over the summer.  It's good for all of us to keep up a bit of work so that it's not such a hard start in August.

Now we get to swim and have fun with our friends!
